外文摘要 | This study discusses whether computer screen reader(Here it refers to the NVDA) can help elementary school students with cortical visual impairment overcome reading difficulty. A fourth-grade student in Taipei City served as the subject for this research. First, information about the subject’s basic skills was collated by observing the subject, interviewing the subject, his/her teachers, and other significant persons, as well as conducting a basic skills test. Next, NVDA was brought into the teaching process. The subject’s comprehension of short articles before and after the use of NVDA was analyzed. Finally, NVDA was integrated into the subject’s original classroom learning. This study then observed and consulted the subject, his/her teachers, and other significant persons for their opinions. The collated information was analyzed for further research. The study’s findings are as follows. 1. Due to damages in their cerebral cortex, this elementary school student with cortical visual impairment has a hard time identifying symbols/letters, thus preventing her from building an adequate vocabulary base and resulting in reading difficulty. 2. Using NVDA can help this elementary school student with cortical visual impairment improve her speed and accuracy in a reading comprehension test. 3. Using NVDA can help this elementary school student with cortical visual impairment improve her speed in a general reading comprehension test. 4. Using NVDA can help this elementary school student with cortical visual impairment complete homework assignments on time with improved speed and accuracy. 5. Using NVDA to assist in reading can help this elementary school student with cortical visual impairment to be proactive in learning. 6. Using NVDA to assist in reading can help this elementary school student with cortical visual impairment develop more motivation to learn. |
