Greetings IASL Members,
One of the most important aspects of IASL is the annual conference.
As you know, each year IASL has a conference in a different part of the world. The IASL website lists all the places IASL has been since our beginnings in 1971.
CONFERENCE 2006
Last month IASL had an extremely successful conference in Lisbon,
Portugal. The theme of the 35th IASL Conference was: The Multiple Faces of Literacy: Reading. Knowing. Doing. Approximately 470 delegates came from all over the world to participate in this year's event.
I would like to invite you to post messages to IASL-LINK about your experiences in Lisbon! Perhaps you could review one of the sessions, or one of the events, or maybe you could discuss your first time experience attending an IASL Conference. Posting a message would help those who were not able to attend the conference get a better feel for the experienced we had in Lisbon. Please note, some posting may later appear at the IASL website, School Libraries Online.
CONFERENCE 2007
The Local Organizing Committee for 2007 has been working hard already to create next year's conference. The theme will be: Cyberspace, D-world, E-learning: Giving Libraries and Schools the Cutting Edge and will be held July 16-20, 2007 in Taipei, Taiwan. the location will be the National Taiwan University GIS Convention Center. Please watch for the Call of Papers, which will be released very soon!
CONFERENCES IN THE FUTURE
At this point in time, IASL has not received any "paperwork" for conferences beyond 2007. If you have an interest in bringing IASL to your area/country, please visit our website, School Libraries Online, for the necessary materials.

Again I would like to thank the 2006 Local Organizing Committee in Portugal for their excellent work. I would also like to wish the best of luck to the 2007 Local Organizing Committee as they continue to plan for our upcoming conference in Taiwan.
Cheers,
Peter Genco
